It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? (12/22/14)

It's Monday What Are You Reading

This week, I’m linking up with Sheila at Book Journey for It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

I just finished reading…

Bishop's Wife, Mette Ivie Harrison, fiction, crime

The Bishop’s Wife by Mette Ivie Harrison
This missing person mystery set in Mormon Utah comes out on December 30 and is a bit of a cross between Under the Banner of Heaven and “Desperate Housewives”. I initially really liked this one, but the momentum dipped a bit in the middle and I ended up with mixed feelings.

I’m currently reading…

The Wife, Meg Wolitzer

The Wife by Meg Wolitzer
Ever since I read The Interestings, I’ve wanted to read something from Wolitzer’s backlist. Shannon at River City Reading’s review led me to The Wife. And…I’m absolutely loving this book! I’m not taking many notes and, instead, just savoring the out of this world writing.

Next up, I have a few more backlist books and a new discovery…

Prince of Tides, Pat Conroy, Unimaginable, Dina Silver, This Town, Mark Leibovich

The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy
Carryover from last week: I read this one years ago and loved it, but can’t remember all the details. I try to re-read at least one Pat Conroy at the beginning of every year…last year I tackled The Great Santini and The Lords of Discipline.

The Unimaginable by Dina Silver
Tara at Running N Reading’s review (and the amazing cover!) of this December release about a girl who moves to Thailand to try to recover after her mother’s death and ends up on a boat in the Indian Ocean caused me to immediately download this sample! Plus, it’s based on friends’ of the author’s actual experience AND is under 300 pages.

This Town by Mark Leibovich
Carryover from last week: I’ve had this political satire sitting on my Kindle since this summer…it’s high time I give it a go!

What are you reading?

  3. I thought The Interestings was so good. It was definitely one of my favorites last year. I NEED to get to The Wife as well. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I’ve been seeing The Bishop’s Wife around in my blog hopping this morning…hmmm. I’m seeing a lot of mixed reactions to it as well. I’ll be very interested in hearing what you think of This Town!

  5. Okay, now I know which THE WIFE you are talking about – ha! Someone else mentioned this one to me, after I read THE INTERESTINGS, so now I really want to read it! Why are there so many books that I want to read? GAH! I hope you enjoy THE UNIMAGINABLE and I think THIS TOWN will be a riot. Glad I didn’t try to get THE BISHOP’S WIFE; once again, you’ve saved me. Have a great day, Sarah!

I read Belzhar and thoroughly enjoyed…so much so I now also want to read something else by Wolitzer. Sounds like The Wife or The Interestings is the way to go 🙂

    Merry Christmas

  8. The premise of The Bishop’s Wife sounds interesting. It’s a shame it was uneven.
