This week, I’m linking up with Sheila at Book Journey for It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?
If you’re a regular reader, you probably know I had a pretty slumpy January (quantity over quality…never the way you want it!) and was praying for a better February. The jury is still out, but things have been pretty good so far. Not excellent, but pretty good 🙂
I just finished reading…
Golden State by Stephanie Kegan (February 17, 2015)
“An exquisite literary drama, with a ripped-from-the headlines urgency, Golden State asks hard questions about the limits of loyalty, and what it means to be a sister, a daughter, a wife, and a mother.” (Goodreads) This one turned out to be different than I expected, but it gave me a lot to think about and would make a great book club selection.

I’m currently reading…
The Half Brother by Holly LeCraw (February 17, 2015)
“A passionate, provocative story of complex family bonds and the search for identity set within the ivy-covered walls of a New England boarding school.” (Goodreads) I literally just started this one, so don’t have much to say about it yet. But, I am intrigued by the underlying dynamics of the central figures at the Abbott School.
I tried, but wasn’t feeling…
Welcome to Braggsville by T. Geronimo Johnson (February 17, 2015)
I made it about 13% through this one. I tried and tried to overcome the stream of consciousness writing style because I’d been looking forward to this book (and, there were some flashes of brilliance buried in all that streaming), but it was just too much. If you’d like a taste of what I mean by his writing style, check out my Tuesday Intros post.
Next up are…
A Touch of Stardust by Kate Alcott (February 17, 2015)
A novel that takes you behind-the-scenes of the filming of “Gone with the Wind”, while turning the spotlight on the passionate romance between its dashing leading man, Clark Gable, and the blithe, free-spirited actress, Carole Lombard. (Goodreads) This one reminds me a bit of The Paris Wife!
Dead Wake by Erik Larson (March 10, 2015)
The true story of the World War I era sinking of the Lusitania, a ritzy ocean liner sailing from New York to Liverpool. Larson (author of The Devil in the White City and In the Garden of Beasts) is the master of nonfiction that reads like fiction and Larson fans have no doubt been anxiously awaiting his latest book. I also included it on a recent Top 10 Nonfiction Books I Want to Read list.
stream of consciousness narratives don’t work for me either so I’ll be steering clear of Braggsville.
I hope you enjoy this weeks selections,

Golden State looks good. I read Devil in the White City and look forward to hearing your thoughts on Dead Wake. Have a great week!
I’m an Erik Larson fan, too. Can’t wait to hear why you think of Dead Wake!
You’ve made me really excited about Golden State!
Like many others, stream of consciousness narratives don’t work for me. I don’t have the patience for them. You can see my week here. Happy reading!
I’m intrigued by The Half Brother–looking forward to your thoughts!
I’m so excited for Dead Wake!
I have been eyeing Golden State….hope you enjoy it! Thanks for visiting my blog.
A Touch of Stardust sounds interesting! Happy reading 🙂
I’ve only heard of a few of those you’ve listed. I had a book I wasn’t feeling this past week and didn’t finish as well.
Check out my Monday post
I hope Golden State was a good read for you.
I love Erik Larson…Dead Wake should be quite good. 🙂
Nice week and upcoming week for you….ENJOY!!

Dead Wake sounds very good indeed, I fancy finding that one!
Excited to read your review of Golden State and I’m really hoping that you enjoy The Half Brother; I know you’ve been looking forward to it! Hope you had a great weekend and that your week is off to a good start. Thanks, Sarah!
I’m getting excited about reading Dead Wake, too. My husband grabbed it as soon as the ARC hit my house and really liked it, so I have high hopes for it.
Bonus for your husband!
Stream of consciousness is so challenging to read! I need to check out Dead Wake – I started listening to The Devil in the White City back in December, and really should get back to it.
Dead Wake. YES. You will love it!
Stardust sounds like my kind of read too, hope you enjoy!
Dead Wake all the way! I’m there.
