It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? (2/22/16)

Hosted by The Book Date.

Ya’ll…my epic winter of 2016 reading slump is OVER!! I’ve pretty much abandoned Forty Rooms and put aside A Manual for Cleaning Women for now (although I’ll definitely come back to this one) to focus on my slump-buster, which you can read more about below.

I was visiting family last week, so I couldn’t fully participate in Book Blogger Appreciation Week. But, I did a lot of lurking and loved reading everyone else’s posts! I also jumped in a bit on Twitter to share some of my favorite blogger Superlatives and books that I’ve read on the recommendation of other bloggers (which is realistically 100% of the books I read, but I just picked some of the most notable ones).

I finished reading…

Be Frank With Me, Julia Claiborne Johnson

Be Frank With Me
by Julia Claiborne Johnson (February 2, 2016)
This debut was just the type of book I needed early last week…an easy read with a bit of depth that could just wash over me.

I’m currently reading…

Tender, Belinda McKeon

Tender
by Belinda McKeon (February 16, 2016)
And…drumroll, everyone…this book is breaking the most epic reading slump I’ve had in awhile! The writing just sucked me in and, at about halfway through, I’m dying to know what’s going to become of the two main characters. If you love character-driven novels, grab this one!

Upcoming reading plans…

The Blue Hour, Douglas Kennedy

The Blue Hour
by Douglas Kennedy (February 16, 2016)
Tara at Running N Reading
said she had a hard time putting down this novel set in Morocco. I’m hoping something fast-paced is just what I’ll need on the heels of a possible hangover from Tender.

Happy to hear that your slump is broken! Today I will start reading The Nightingale, for one of my reading groups. I hope it is good. I don’t always trust those books that EVERYONE has read (or at least bought, if you believe the bestseller lists.

Glad Tender got you reading. Was thinking about readings slumps during the week – was reading a few slow but worth reading books and I thought, totally going away from books for x number of days might do it if I was in a slump!

  13. I would really like to get to Tender because of the raving from all who’ve read it. I listened to a sample of Be Frank with Me and really loved the sample. I might get to that one later. Yay for leaving the slump!

I hope you get to it! Is there room on your capsule shelf?!

      • I’m actually gliding through my shelf better than I ever expected and have still managed a few that weren’t on my shelf. I’m thinking of replacing some on it, so maybe these will be the subs.

  14. Huzzah!! I’ve had a few reading slumps in my time, usually the busier life gets the less I feel like reading – my poor frazzled brain craves mindless TV instead 😉 Glad to hear you’ve snapped your slump!

  17. Glad to hear that your reading again. I have never heard of any of your titles but I guess I will have to check out what Tender is all about since everyone is talking about it.
