It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? (8/29/16)

Hosted by The Book Date.

It’s the last week of summer and I’m bummed. It flew by way too fast and I feel like there’s more beach and pool still in me. Alas. At least we get buzzy Fall book releases and college football to make up for it!

I finished reading…

Dear Mr. M, Herman Koch

Dear Mr. M by Herman Koch (September 6, 2016)
Dear Mr. M got those big, buzzy Fall books I mentioned off on the right foot! One of my favorite books of the year so far and exactly what you’d expect from Herman Koch. Review to come.

I’m currently reading…

American Heiress, Jeffrey Toobin, Patty Hearst

American Heiress
by Jeffrey Toobin (August 2, 2016)
I’m almost finished with this account of the Patty Hearst kidnapping and there is SO much more to it than I’d known going in. It’s a crazy one and kind of strikes me as the OJ Simpson case of the 1970’s.

Upcoming reading plans…

Loner, Teddy Wayne

Loner
by Teddy Wayne (September 13, 2016)
I wasn’t a huge fan of Wayne’s The Love Song of Jonny Valentine, but his latest novel takes place at Harvard and I’m a sucker for campus novels, so I’m going to give it a shot.

How was your reading week?

Haha! I think I’ve been so traumatized by the past few NY winters that I’ll take 95 degree heat for as long as possible in exchange for less snow.

  2. I’m looking forward to Loner, too, but I really liked Jonny Valentine – hope it works out for both of us 😉

I’m almost finished Loner and it ended up being pretty different than I expected. Through 90%, I like it a ton more than Jonny Valentine 🙂

I’m jealous! I love Australia – lived there for 6 months around the time of the 2000 Olympics, but sadly never made it to the West coast.

  5. American Heiress sounds promising. I hadn’t heard about Loner — thanks for alerting me! I really liked The Love Song of Jonny Valentine so will check it out. Plus, I too enjoy a campus novel and have some familiarity with the Harvard campus (as a visitor not a student). Every description of Koch’s The Dinner has turned me off so I’ve never read anything by him. I’m eager to read more about Dear Mr. M.

I feel like Koch has a very distinct style that people tend to either love or hate…kind of like cilantro! And, I liked Loner a ton more than I liked Jonny Valentine!

      • The Hokies! We’ve got a new coach this year so we’re a little nervous.

  12. You’re bummed summer is over, and I’m bummed it’s about to start. Would you like to homeswap for the next six months? You can experience a delightful (depending on who you talk to) Australian summer.
