What I’m Reading Now (11/9/20)

what I'm reading now

That was a week and I’m glad there is finally resolution with the election. I actually had a draft of this post written with the opening “I didn’t think I’d be writing this without a resolution to the election”…glad I had to rewrite that! I feel like I read a lot this week, but I’m working on a long book (for me…500+ pages), so I feel like I made less progress than I did.

The 2021 Reading Tracker will launch on Thursday (on November 12)! There are lots of new updates this year…including expanded diversity metrics and an updated Recommendation Sources calculation that includes “mutual dislikes!” Also new for 2021, Sarah’s Bookshelves patrons will get access to a bonus podcast episode about how to get the most out of your reading tracker (including how I use the tracker, my favorite parts, how to track your recommendation sources, how I manage my TBR list, and answers to your questions).

Podcast

There was no new podcast last week.

This week will be a full length episode about all things audiobooks with Claire Handscombe of Libro.fm.

I finished reading…

This is My America

This is My America by Kim Johnson (July 28, 2020)
I have no idea why this YA novel isn’t getting more attention! I’ll be giving it some on upcoming podcast episodes.

We Keep the Dead Close

Keep the Dead Close by Becky Cooper (November 10, 2020)
I’m just about 75% through this true crime / memoir about a 1969 murder at Harvard and, if things continue on their current trajectory, it will be 5 stars for me! It’s a literary true crime with a super atmospheric setting and an intriguing cast of characters.

Upcoming reading plans…

If it comes in from the library in time…

Bluebird Bluebird

Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke (September 10, 2017)
This backlist police procedural / thriller about murder, race, and justice in East Texas comes highly recommended by Meredith of the Currently Reading Podcast (my go-to recommendation source for mysteries, police procedurals, and legal thrillers).
