Last week was a good reading week! I felt like I fit in more reading than usual and I’m generally liking everything I’m reading right now. It’s nice to be back in a good place finally.
Podcast
Episode 56 featuring Holly Root (Literary Agent & Owner of Root Literary) on the Rise of Rom-Coms and Coronavirus’s Impact on Publishing aired last week.
And, a mini episode featuring Liz Hein (@lizhein89) will air this Wednesday.

I finished reading…
The Bright Lands by John Fram (July 7, 2020)
I was on the 5 star train with this one, but it took a hard turn in the second half that I wasn’t super happy with. I’m processing my thoughts and I think I’ll be sharing them in a podcast episode (either for the general public or in a bonus episode for patrons).

Craigslist Confessional by Helena Dea Bala (July 7, 2020)
What a fantastic 5 star surprise! The personal stories are of the take-your-breath-away variety that were in Tiny Beautiful Things…minus the advice part.

I’m currently reading…
The Golden Cage by Camilla Lackburg (July 7, 2020)
I’m about 60% through this suspense / thriller by “Europe’s Queen of Crime.” I’ve always had good luck with European suspense and I’m thoroughly enjoying this one so far. But, it definitely doesn’t read like American domestic suspense…more of a slow burn, great character development, and some serious girl power!

Upcoming reading plans…
Hollywood Park by Mikel Jollett (May 26, 2020)
This cult memoir is the last book I’m vetting for the 2020 Summer Reading Guide (coming on May 12).

How was your reading week?

I have The Golden Cage on my ARC stack. Can’t wait to read it.
I’m curious about Craigslist Confessional.
Enjoy your week, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES
I’ll be looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Hollywood Park. I tried just a little of it and didn’t like the voice of the author (talking like a child). I’ve wondered if that stopped and it got better.
I’m thrilled Craigslist Confessional is so good and The Golden Cage is one I’d like to read, too.
Have a great week, Sarah!
I’ve been happily doing a lot of rereading via audiobooks. Soon I’ll need to switch to my June review copies though. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
I’m reading All Adults Here and absolutely loving it. I also started listening to Open Book and think Simpson’s voice and manner are going to be a nice respite from the news.
open book was a shot out of left field that I was not expecting!! like SOOO GOOD I couldn’t put it down and wait till the end of the audio book… there are 6 songs that are NOT on iTunes that are legit good!
THE BRIGHT LANDS is on my list. I thought it sounds good, but I’m wondering what happens halfway through now!!
Your list is so current! I’m reading old books right now, but I did just start listening to You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I have to listen fast because I only have a few days left on the library loan before it expires!
glad you shared the Craigslist book. The comparison to Tiny Beautiful Things got me and now I preordered it. looks wicked good!!
