Happy late Halloween, everyone! I’m not a huge horror reader, so I didn’t do any special reading for Halloween month. But, here’s what’s been going on lately…
- I started participating in Book Journey’s It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? for the first time and am making this a regular routine. Why did I not do this sooner?!
- Next month, I’m participating in Nonfiction November. I was horrified to discover that I’d only read two nonfiction books that weren’t cooking books or memoirs this entire year! I really enjoy nonfiction and don’t know how I ever let this happen, so am looking forward to knocking out a couple of nonfiction titles in the next few weeks.
- And, finally, my blog will be getting a makeover in December! I’m so excited to graduate from the default WordPress theme (aka the “I don’t know what I’m doing theme”) to something more exciting (I’m working with Stephanie at New Chapter Designs to make this happen).
On to the round-up…

- Leila at Reader’s Oasis pointed out that a couple recent award winning books are relatively obscure and asked whether awards influence your reading choices. Awards do influence my reading choices, but in a more negative way due to bad experiences with some past award winners (The Orphan Master’s Son, The Round House, and Wolf Hall to name a few).
- Gone Girl (the movie) came out, reigniting the controversy over its infamous ending. I loved Shannon at River City Reading‘s defense of said ending, which many people despised. I join Shannon as one of the few people who thought the ending was fitting for those particular characters and the theme of the book.
- Finally, this isn’t a blogger shout-out, but I did find this article on how the publishing industry and indie bookstores are not, in fact, dying very interesting. Especially since it says I can stop feeling guilty that my exclusive e-reading habit is killing off publishers and bookstores 🙂
Really glad that you’re joining in on Nonfiction November! It’s such a fun event and really does get you focused on all the great nonfiction out there (your TBR will grow by miles!). I can’t wait to see how pretty your blog is going to look, too!
You had a great reading month. Several of those are on my TBR List.
ENjoy your Sunday.
You had a great month in October! I didn’t do any themed reading either–actually I wasted so much time on Drood that I didn’t get very much reading done at all. Looking forward to more variety in November with some nonfiction. 🙂 So Wolf Hall didn’t work for you, huh? I’ve been really torn about whether I want to read that one or not. Seems people either love it or hate it!
Did wordpress eat my comment? Wahhhhh!!!! Hopefully this ends up being a duplicate and you can delete it. 🙂 Anyway, in short I’m looking forward to nonfiction November as well. I was actually thinking of throwing a cookbook into the mix, though (Dinner: A Love Story). My nonfic reading count has been decent this year but most of my nonfiction has been in the form of graphics.
I’m participating in Nonfiction November as well! Last year it made my TBR list explode–and I’m hoping for the same this year! See you there! 🙂
Congrats on your upgrading your blog appearance. It’s always fun to change things up. So many good books you read this past month– Reunion does look like an interesting read to me.
Hope November is as good a reading month as October was. Good luck with your November challenge. Look forward to your blog redesign.
You have some treats on your TBR! I loved Spoiled Brats, as you know, but I also really enjoyed The Martian!
I’ve been meaning to read The Martian for months now, but I will get to it before the end of the year. It’s been sitting on my Kindle all this time! Looking forward to it.
Thanks for stopping by!
Looks like you had a smashing month; keep up the good work!
HA–don’t feel badly about only reading 2 nonfiction titles! I have read ONE–the Without You, There Is No Us book! Uh, I think I’m going to count that towards Nonfiction November since my review is going to be posted in November . . . is that cheating, do you think?! Will the blogging police come after me??
I’m doing the same thing! I read Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy in October, but haven’t posted my review yet and am absolutely counting it toward NN! Also – there’s a nonfiction review I wrote this summer that I still haven’t posted that I’m going to use. Who are the blogging police, anyway?!! Ha!
I can’t wait to get my hands on Reunion! Sounds like my kind of book.
As a newbie to blogging, I am definitely in the “I don’t know what I’m doing ” wordpress theme! Baby steps 🙂
