I didn’t get to read much this past week because there was lots of podcast and blog work going on! Right now is a very busy time for me preparing to launch lots of fun, year-end things. The 2021 Rock Your Reading Tracker launched last week, the Holiday Gift Guide is coming on Thursday, the Best Books of 2020 Tournament for patrons is going on now, and Susie from Novel Visits and I finally (after 2 failed attempts due to poor Skype connection) recorded the Year-End podcast episode (airing on November 25).
Reminder: new patrons who sign up during the month of November get a free audiobook credit from Libro.fm to use during the month of November!
Podcast
Last week, we talked about all things audiobooks with Claire Handscombe of Libro.fm.

I finished reading…
Keep the Dead Close by Becky Cooper (November 10, 2020)
I absolutely loved this literary true crime / memoir about a 1969 murder at Harvard…5 stars and there’s a very good change it ends up on my Best Books of 2020 list!

I’m currently reading…
Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke (September 10, 2017)
I’m about halfway through this backlist police procedural / thriller about murder, race, and justice in East Texas and it’s incredibly atmospheric (especially for a police procedural). I’m also engrossed in the mystery angle. I’m hoping this continues because there’s a second book in the series to look forward to.

Upcoming reading plans…
The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen (April 7, 2015)
I missed this Pulitzer Prize winner (but, this particular prize is usually a “run away” sign for me) when it came out, but there’s a sequel coming out in 2021, so I want to test this out first to see if I should request the sequel. Also, Beck Dorey-Stein (author of From the Corner of the Oval) recommended it on the podcast.

How was your reading week?

I think that any literary prize winner is a run away sign for me. I like light fluffy books. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
I really enjoyed Bluebird, Bluebird! I loved the characters and the atmosphere. AL’s books are so good and I can’t wait to get to the 2nd one.
I’ve read both Bluebird, Bluebird and the follow-up, Heaven My Home and honestly liked the second one better. I also read The Sympathizer a year or two ago and wasn’t a big fan. I didn’t think it was bad, just not very good either. Looking forward to reading We Keep the Dead Close though!
